Every Viking yacht leaving New Gretna carries a propulsion system shaped by more than twenty years of collaboration between Viking Yachts and VEEM Ltd. As profiled in the Winter 2026 edition of Viking Valhalla, the relationship has evolved from a supplier arrangement into a deeply integrated engineering partnership, underpinned by shared standards, methodical testing, and long-term trust.
VEEM propellers have been standard equipment on Viking models since the early 2000s, with more than 1,700 propellers supplied directly and over 2,100 produced for Viking yachts globally. Each propeller is cast and machined in Perth using in-house alloying and CNC processes, then tested and refined in the United States to meet Viking’s precise performance requirements.
A key milestone in the collaboration came with the development of new propeller solutions to match high-horsepower platforms, including the MTU 16V2000 M93 engines. Joint testing programs – most notably through the Viking 64 PowerPlay – allowed VEEM and Viking engineers to validate performance across long-range endurance trials and diverse operating environments. These programs directly informed the development of the VEEMSportfish propeller series and the VEEM Interceptor system, enabling precise pitch adjustment and significantly more efficient sea trial processes.
As highlighted by Viking’s design, engineering, and purchasing teams, the relationship is underpinned by alignment in how both companies approach manufacturing: in-house control, attention to detail, and a willingness to iterate until performance targets are met. Beyond propulsion hardware, testing data generated through VEEM’s programs continues to inform Viking’s broader running-gear design, contributing to smoother operation, reduced vibration, and consistent performance across successive models.
