  • The Sharrow MX™ Propeller has been selected as one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2023 for its revolutionary design that transforms the entire boating experience.
  • TIME’s annual list recognizes innovations that have significantly impacted the way we live.
  • On 2 October 2023 VEEM announced it had signed an agreement for VEEM to exclusively manufacture and sell Sharrow designed propellers worldwide for larger inboard-powered vessels.

On 2 October 2023 VEEM announced it had executed agreements with Sharrow Engineering, LLC (“Sharrow”) for VEEM and Sharrow to partner together to design and then VEEM to exclusively manufacture and sell Sharrow propellers worldwide up to 5 metres in diameter for inboard motor vessels. TIME’s annual list recognizes innovations that have significantly impacted the way we live. The Sharrow MX™ Propeller was hailed by TIME as “80% quieter than competitors, making it less disruptive to wildlife, and its looping design makes it up to 30% more efficient than standard boat propellers.”

The Sharrow™ Propeller, invented by Greg Sharrow, offers significant design improvements over conventional propellers and is recognized as the first major advancement in propeller technology since the 1830s. The Sharrow MX™ Propeller’s loop-shaped design solves the most basic problem of rotary propulsion, eliminating or substantially reducing tip vortices and cavitation, which offers incredible performance gains over traditional propellers, maximizing efficiency, sustainability and performance while minimizing noise. Additionally, it makes for a more comfortable and fun boating experience, and is a beloved product with thousands of units sold worldwide.

To compile the list, nominations are solicited from TIME’s editors and correspondents around the world, and through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields—such as AI, green energy, and sustainability. TIME then evaluates each contender on a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.

Of the new list, TIME’s editors write: “The result is a list of 200 groundbreaking inventions (and 50 special mention inventions)—including the world’s most powerful supercomputer, a game-changing entertainment venue, and a new shape—that are changing how we live, work, play, and think about what’s possible.”

Sharrow Marine’s inclusion on the TIME Best Inventions list is the latest achievement in the company’s success. The Sharrow MX™ Propeller was also named a finalist in Fast Company’s 2023 Innovation by Design Awards in the Products category.

VEEM Chairman, Brad Miocevich said: “We congratulate Greg and the talented, hardworking  Sharrow team on this prestigious award by TIME.  We are very excited to be working with Sharrow on the worldwide rollout of the ground-breaking propeller design into the larger inboard-powered vessel market.”

Sharrow Engineering Managing Director, Greg Sharrow said: “We are thrilled to be one of the recipients of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2023. It is a testament to our incredibly talented and innovative team. The Sharrow MX Propeller’s ability to dramatically enhance the boating experience while also reducing each boat’s carbon footprint and sound impact on marine life is shaping the future of propulsion, and I am proud that our hard work is being honored by TIME.

“The Sharrow design is now being rolled out to the larger inboard market through a collaboration agreement with VEEM. VEEM is globally acknowledged as the world’s best propeller manufacturer and the only one generating significant volumes of a consistently accurate, fully CNC-machined end product. Therefore we are very excited that the end product – SHARROW by VEEM – will dramatically improve the sustainability and enjoyment of boating.”
