The Australian Government has formally launched the Life-of-Type Extension (LOTE) program for the Royal Australian Navy’s six Collins Class submarines, committing up to $11 billion over the decade to sustain and modernise the fleet into the 2030s and potentially the 2040s. HMAS Farncomb will be the first boat to enter the program this month at Osborne, South Australia, with Henderson in Western Australia continuing to play a central role in submarine sustainment and workforce development.
VEEM has supported the Collins Class program since its earliest days, as part of more than $250 million in defence work delivered from our facilities since 1987. The LOTE program is a significant signal of long-term commitment to Australia’s sovereign submarine capability and to the industrial base that underpins it through the transition to the future AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine force.
VEEM looks forward to continuing to support the Collins Class fleet, ASC and the broader submarine enterprise through this next chapter.
